Miami Weekend Navigator: January 29-31

Happy Thursday Miami! We're hitting the final stretch of January and honestly, good riddance. This month felt like it lasted three years. February's around the corner and with it comes better vibes, warmer nights, and hopefully fewer reasons to question reality on a daily basis.

This weekend's lineup is stacked. Live music, art shows, food events, fitness classes for anyone still pretending their New Year's resolution matters, and plenty of spots to just exist without an agenda. The city's buzzing. Your couch doesn't need you. Get out there.

Before we dive into the fun stuff, we need to highlight something important happening locally. Protests against federal immigration enforcement are taking place across South Florida this weekend following two fatal shootings by federal agents in Minneapolis last week. Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse, and Renee Good, a mother, were both killed during immigration operations. Video evidence and eyewitness accounts have contradicted official statements from the Department of Homeland Security about what happened.

Several protests are planned:

Friday, January 30:
• 12-2pm at FIU Graham Center (hosted by Young Democratic Socialists of America/ICE Breakers FIU)
• 7pm at Torch of Friendship downtown (hosted by Miami DSA/50501 South Florida)

Saturday, January 31:
• 11am-2pm at Torch of Friendship downtown (hosted by Miami Indivisible)
• 10-11:30am in Wilton Manors at 1150 NE 26th St (hosted by Indivisible, repeats Feb 7 and Feb 14)

Ongoing:
• Every Monday starting Jan 26, 4:30-5:30pm in Marathon at 3770 Overseas Hwy (hosted by Middle Keys Democrats)

Whether you attend or not is your decision. We're just making sure you're informed about what's happening in your city.

Now back to regularly scheduled programming. Here's your Weekend Navigator for Thursday through Saturday.

We love you Miami. However you spend this weekend, be safe and be present.
